Does Macau Citizens Need Visa for Entering Vietnam or Not?

Yes. Macau citizens need Visa for entering Vietnam. Usually there are two simple ways in which a foreign national can obtain Visa to Vietnam. He can either contact the Embassy of Vietnam in his country or apply for Visa on Arrival. However, Vietnam does not have an embassy in Macau. For this reason, the Visa application process through the embassy is a little more complicated than usual for the citizens of Macau. If you are a citizen of Macau, you can either get in touch with an embassy of Vietnam in a neighboring country or enquire with the officials if the Visa application process can be facilitated over postal mail.

In case you decide to travel to a foreign location to apply for Visa to Vietnam from the embassy, you will have to incur expenses on travel and accommodation. At the embassy, you will be taken through a step by step procedure on filling up of required forms, payment of mandatory fees and submission of relevant documents. You will be required to fill up the Visa application form and submit one recent passport sized photograph, one self-addressed envelope and your original passport. Along with documents and form, you will also have pay the Visa fees. The fees can be paid in favor of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s check.

The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once your documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. The biggest benefit of applying for Visa to Vietnam through the embassy is that you will have a fully stamped Visa in your hands before your departure to Vietnam. However, this procedure is too time consuming and expensive.

If you do not wish to travel to a foreign location, you can get in touch with the embassy officials over the telephone or email and enquire if the procedure can be extended over postal mail. However, there are problems in this method too. You will have to send in all your documents, including your original passport, through postal mail to the embassy address. This means that you could lose your documents if your package is lost or misplaced in transit.

Hence, the best way to apply for Visa for Macau citizens is to apply for Visa on Arrival. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill up the application online on the agent’s website. Once the form is filled, it will be submitted for processing. Online forms are usually processed in a couple of days.

After your form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. On arriving in Vietnam, you will have to produce this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter of the Vietnamese airport you arrive in. You will also have to pay the Visa stamping fees along with the letter to obtain your Visa on Arrival document.

It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes, it is mandatory that they carry all their documents along with them while travelling. In case of a cruise ship, the cruise authorities can be contacted for information on Visa on Arrival.
