Do Guinea-Bissau citizens need visa for entering Vietnam or not?

Yes, the citizens of Guinea-Bissau need to obtain a proper visa for entry into Vietnam. Vietnam has its own distinct visa policy that makes it a necessary requirement for Guinea-Bissau citizens to have a valid visa and a passport if they want to enter this nation, for tourism, trade or any other reason. Even though the policy has made visa essential, the country has framed several criteria that qualify you for a visa exemption.

Under these scenarios, Guinea-Bissau citizens can avail a visa exemption –

1) If your spouse is from Vietnam, or your parents are Vietnamese then you can avail a visa exemption for a maximum duration of up to 5 years. You will need to submit all the required documents proving your relationship.

2) If your child is below 14 years of age and shares his or her passport with you, then you do not need to apply for a separate visa for your child.

3) If you hold a Guinea-Bissau official or diplomatic passport then you can get a visa exemption of up to 90 days maximum. Beyond this, you will have to apply for a valid visa.

4) In addition to these, if you are planning to visit the Phu Quoc islands, even then you can avail a visa exemption of maximum 30 days. If you have to stay on the island longer than this or leave the island then you will have to apply for a valid visa.

Before initiating the process for a visa, get a complete understanding of the exemption rules. The procedure for applying for a visa is usually via an embassy that officially grants any type of visa. The second way is through online agents like us who process VOAs for the aspiring travelers.

Applying Visa through an embassy:

Vietnam has strong diplomatic relations with more than 170 nations across the world. Moreover, it has established embassy in around 70 countries. However, Guinea-Bissau does not have a Vietnam embassy at present and hence for the people here, applying for a visa is a little tiring.

Since Guinea-Bissau does not have any Vietnam embassy, the citizens will have to apply for a visa via embassies located in the neighboring countries. The process asks for downloading the application form from the embassy website and completing it. Affix a colored photo to this form and send it through post to the embassy office. In addition, also send along your original passport and processing fee. Make sure that before submitting your documents, you enquire about the time it will take for you to get your visa.

Getting a VOA:

Since, getting an embassy visa is tough for Guinea-Bissau citizens; a better way would be to opt for a Visa on Arrival (VOA). This type of visa is applicable only for air routes. Hence, if you are flying all the way to your destination, then you can get a VOA that is faster, easier, and more economical. For other modes of journey i.e. water and roadways, you need to have an embassy visa.
