Does Chinese citizens need visa for entering Vietnam or not ?

If you are residing in China or a Chinese citizen and are planning to visit Vietnam, it is mandatory that you apply for Visa. Citizens of most countries are required to apply for Visa to enter Vietnam. However, the residents of countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Japan, South Korea are entitled to free Visa for 15 days in Vietnam. However, if an individual from any of these countries wishes to stay in Vietnam for a period of more than 15 days, he would have to apply for Visa. An important thing to note about the Visa mandates for individuals from these countries is that these individuals can avail of Visa free policy on their return, only if they come back after a period of 30 days.

As far as an individual from China is concerned, there are two common methods of applying for Visa. The standard method would be to reach out to the embassy or consulate and seek help from the staff for forms, payments, submissions etc. This is a long drawn process and will require you to make multiple visits to the embassy. If you are someone who does not reside in an area where the Vietnamese embassy is present or are hard pressed for time, the ideal solution would be to apply for Visa on Arrival.

In order to apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will be required to fill up an online form, wherein you will have to key in details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay, travel dates etc. While selecting the purpose of visit, you will have to choose from three options – business, tourist and travel. Business Visa offers a validity of one month, three months and six months. Tourist Visa offers a validity of one month and transit visa offers a validity of less than five days. If you are a transit passenger, you will have to move out of Vietnam within five days or else you will have to move to a third country.

You will also have to pay the Visa fees and the travel agent’s service charges, which can easily be deposited online.

Once your form is filled, submit it for processing. It will take a couple of days for the Immigration department to process your application. Once your form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. This letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent and sent to you.

On reaching Vietnam, you will have to submit this letter of approval along with the Visa stamping fees at the Visa on Arrival counter of the airport you arrive in to collect your document. It is mandatory that you carry all important documents with you, failing which you can be denied entry into Vietnam or even face immediate deportation.

Also, the Visa on Arrival facility is extended to only those travellers who arrive in Vietnam by air. Those taking land routes to reach Vietnam are required to carry all necessary documents with them while travelling. If you are taking a cruise ship, you can contact the cruise authorities for information on Visa on Arrival.
