Thailand is among the 17 nations in the world that have been granted an exemption from obtaining a visa for an entry into Vietnam. The countries have entered into a reciprocal agreement that means that the two nations will grant each other similar favors in return. Hence, Vietnam has granted Thailand a visa exemption of up to 30 days and likewise Thailand has granted an exemption of 30 days to the Vietnamese citizens.   

If a Thai needs to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days then it is a mandate for him to obtain a valid visa from the authorities. It is advisable to secure the visa before you begin your journey. Obtaining your visa for the extended stay while you are in Vietnam, will be a troublesome process as well as expensive.
